Every business type has a Marketing DNA, I have come to realise over the years.
However, I didn’t always know this.
Well, I might have known it, but I didn’t put it down on paper for far too long, which was a shame, for my own business and for my clients.
I always knew that some forms of marketing worked better for some businesses than others, and that I much preferred clients finding my business or my clients’ businesses rather than me having to hunt them down with cold calling or exhibitions (as previously mentioned), but it took me a while to work out precisely why.
I had been running my business profitably for many years when a mentor asked me:
“So Jervis, what is your methodology for growing your clients’ businesses?” (like Reacher, I am often called by my surname, I don’t know why, it has just always happened. Sadly that is probably all I have in common with him…).
It was a simple question on the face of it, but it was one that I had never actually put down on paper.
It seemed like that was the ideal time to do so, so I took myself away from my desk to get all of my thoughts about the topic on paper and that is when it all really clicked for me.
More importantly, from that moment onwards, I was able to easily see for my own business and for my clients’ businesses which marketing tactics would work for them, and more importantly, which would never work.
Once I realised this, I was able to safeguard both myself and my clients from the so called Business Gurus who were trying to sell them stuff.
I am now going to give you the tools too, so that you no longer invest in the wrong training on marketing tactics which would simply never work for YOUR BUSINESS TYPE.
