When it comes to content writing for SME’s, beware. As a content marketing specialist since 1999, the one thing that I know is that Google ALWAYS finds out when you are trying to cheat the system. Always.
Once it finds out you are cheating the system (think dodgy backlinks) it puts in place a system to ensure anyone exploiting the system goes to the bottom of Google, not the top.
What Can AI Do For Your SME?
According to the very many emails and blog posts writte, AI promises to change my business, change my life, make me more attractive, make me a marathon runner and do any other number of things, but when it comes to AI content writing for SME’s, beware!
People are using it to write articles, write exam papers and there was even a case where a barrister asked it to produce case law to support his client’s arguments.
It did, and it was only when the judge told the barrister that the cases were entirely fictitious that we realise AI is definitely not the answer to all questions after all.
My take is to be very careful indeed.
AI, Content Marketing & Easy Life Client Attraction
If we talk about it in the new client attraction world, a lot of people are churning out dozens of articles now at lightning speed using AI, thinking that they are ‘cheating the system and beating their competition’.
I have been in the organic, online marketing world pretty much since its inception to the mainstream at the turn of the century, when websites became BIG news.
One thing that I have learned, having gone through Google slap downs (where your website goes from the top of Google to nowhere thanks to Panda and Penguin updates as they were cutely called), is that you cannot cheat the mighty Google.
It has its own AI tool, and it will know if you are using AI.
As it used to do initially when people built spammy backlinks, at first it allows it.
Then it works out that it is not doing what Google’s ultimate purpose always has been – to provide the quality results that its users are looking for.
AI can play a part in certain ways, but when it comes to writing unique content, for me it cannot beat a human, because Google will know (and so will the human reading it).
Searching For Real Service Businesses & AI
AI is unlikely to change how we use search engines to find real businesses.
If you need someone to prepare your annual accounts, are you going to use an Accountant or let AI do it for you?
If you have a leak in your bathroom, would you like AI or a plumber to fix it for you?
Need a mortgage or business continuity planning, AI or a human?
Want to move a house and need a conveyancer, AI or a human to complete your house purchase?
When it comes to marketing your services, people are still going to use good old fashioned Google search and choose their service provider themselves, not let AI do it for them.
And those who write unique content will be closer to the top of Google than the AI written websites.
That is my prediction and my warning to you.
And like I say, I have been doing this for a while now.
My advice is against the mass trends out there, but I have always liked the saying “If everyone else is doing it, I almost certainly need to do the opposite”..
This is why, if my clients access my content writing services, the keyword research is carried out by a human, the content is written by a human and then it is added to your website and optimised by a human.
When you put the hard yards in (or we do it for you), the rewards will always come back to you.
