What is OptinMonster and what does OptinMonster do? If you are considering buying Optin Monster, what do you get for your money?
In this article, I look at all of the things that OptinMonster will do for you and for your business.

What Does OptinMonster Do?
Primarily the main purpose of the software, and my experience of using it too, is that it gets more people to sign up to receive your free guides (items of value) from your website and thereby onto your email list.
Why does this matter?
Well, for any business, email marketing should be an integral part of your marketing strategy. The more people that you have on your email list, when you send your daily, weekly or monthly email, the more people will hear about your products or services and the more people will buy from you.
Therefore, put in its simplest format, the answer to what OptinMonster does is that it makes you more money.
And in my experience, it does.
Looking at my numbers, I measure an increase in my sign ups of about 20%, which isn’t massive, and I have certainly seen much bigger numbers from other users, but it is significant enough for me to make a substantial return on investment, which is what marketing is all about.
With any marketing spend for any business, save for the big brands, each bit of marketing you undertake should pay for itself and put more money back into your bank account than it takes out.
As I mentioned above, I use OptinMonster extensively, not just on this website, but at the moment on six websites in total. I pay more than the maximum standard pricing you will see on the OptinMonster website here, which is around $50 a month, because it generates more email subscribers than before I added it to each of these websites.
How does it do this?
Let’s look at how it grows my email marketing list on each of these websites now.
How Does OptinMonster Grow Email Marketing Subscribers?
The best features in terms of growing your email list more quickly are:
- Slide ins
- Pop ups
- Exit intent pop ups
Let’s look at each of these, and explain why they grow your email list more quickly than when you do not use them.
1. Slide In OptinMonster Tool
The slide in from OptinMonster pretty much does what it says it does; it slides in from the bottom right hand side of the website based on the settings you choose.
For example, you can ask for it to slide in:
- After a period of time, eg 5 seconds, 10 seconds or 15 seconds.
- On all pages on your website, or only on specific sections of your website.

You can make them large or small, bright or simple as there are loads of design templates for you to choose from inside the software.
Slide Ins work so well from OptinMonster because they bring your website to life. The sliding in element motion brings the sign up form in to your website visitor’s line of site, making it much more likely that they will enter their details, receive the ‘item of value’ and go onto your email marketing list.
2. Pop Ups
Pop ups appear in the middle of your website again based on the criteria that you choose:
- The time on the page of the visitor
- Certain areas of your website. For example, my visitors when on the Mastermind Group section of my website, will see a free Mastermind Group Launch Checklist pop up, but when in the SEO section of my website, they will see my SEO Steps Checklist.
This feature of customising the pop up to match the section of your website in which your website visitor is will lead to more downloads for you and more people on your email list.
3. Exit Intent Pop Ups
Exit intent pop ups are, as there name suggests, a form of pop up, but they work very well as they only pop up just as someone is heading to the ‘close’ button on your website.
In other words, the visitor is just about to leave your website, so OptinMonster pops up giving you a last chance to win their email address before they go.
It works, a treat.
How Does OptinMonster Work With Your Email Marketing Software?
The good news about OptinMonster is that it integrates with your existing email marketing software.
It is a bolt on rather than a replacement.
Whether you use my preferred email marketing software of choice, Aweber, Keap or any of the many other forms of email marketing software out there, OptinMonster will integrate with it, so that anyone signing up for your free guide goes straight into your email marketing software.
You might wonder why you need both, but the simple truth is that if you only have your email marketing software, your email list will be up to from 50% smaller than if you use your email marketing software in tandem with OptinMonster.
