Using Google’s Site Speed Page Test And How Important Is Website Loading Page Speed

One of THE important considerations Google makes when deciding how high up the Google Charts to list your website is how quickly your website loads. Knowing your website page loading speed is critical. Here is how to use Google’s site speed page test to discover this.Your website loading speed is critical – how is it?

Google figures, correctly so in my impatient opinion, that if your website is slow to load, it is bad for the user.

I know for my part if a website whirrrrrsss for more than a few seconds before it loads that I hit the back button faster than I can name an 80’s song whilst playing ‘beat the intro’ – and I can tell you that that’s pretty fast!

So, my friend, how is your website load speed doing?

Enter your URL into Google’s page speed insights, hit the Blue ‘Analyze’ button then away your results.

Notice that there are two results for your website, Mobile page speed results and Desktop page speed results.

My advice is that you run the test three times to see your average results.

You will not only be provided with your speed out of 100, but also the action you can take which will improve your website page loading speeds. Unless you are very technically minded, this should be copied and sent on to your website developer to make the changes to improve your website speeds.

I know website designers, so I know that a lot of them will tell you ‘not to worry, it is fine’. Unless your scores are over 80/100 for both mobile and desktop, do not accept their response. You need to improve your website page load speeds to not only improve your user experience, but also to give yourself more chance of appearing higher in the Google organic search engine results.

1. Page Speed 0-19 Google site speed page test results

Urgent work is needed to improve your page load speeds. It will currently be costing you visitors and enquiries for your services.

2. 20-39 Google site speed page test results

Not as bad as category 1, above, but not a lot better. Again, urgent work required.

3. 40-59 Google site speed page test results

You are doing OK and if you left your page speeds as they are, it would not be fatal. However, having come this far isn’t it worth making the tweaks that will move you up a category or two?

4. 60-79 Google site speed page test results

You are nearly at the top of the tree. Differences now to nudge you to the top of the charts will be small, but ultimately very worthwhile.

5. 80+ Google site speed page test results

The creme de la creme, or the winner, winner, chicken dinner category if that is your preference!

Once you reach this level, you cannot stop completely. You need to run the three tests once a month to ensure you stay at Level 5 and don’t drift downwards.
