Life Coaching Business Names

Life Coaching Business NamesIf you have decided to start a life coaching business, how do you come up with life coaching business names?

In this article I am going to share with you some ideas not only for naming your life coaching business, but also, and perhaps more importantly, coming up with your strap line so that people know instantly when they land on your website whether you are the right life coach for them.

Before we start, let me stress one thing which is vital.

Go through this process before even looking at your domain names. There are so many options for domain names that you can easily find something to suit you, but choosing the best business name and strapline should come before looking at domain names.

I have seen so many coaches and consultants buy 10 or 20 domains before finally choosing their business name. When you start any business you want to do so leanly and without spending a fortune, so get the right name first, then go and find the best domain name available for it.

Now I have covered that off, let’s look at some business names, and start with the obvious choice, before moving onto other options and how to create your perfect strapline.

Your Name

Many coaches and consultants shy away from using their name as their business name, but as you can see, I have taken the opposite approach.

There are several reasons for this:

  • Your name is unique to you, it is you. Your coaching style will also be unique to you, so why wouldn’t you use your name?
  • Some people want to stay away from their name because it makes them look small. They want a big shiny name that might seem more corporate, however, when you think about what a life coaching business is, that is definitely the wrong way to go.
  • It is very hard to come up with a unique name and to find a domain name to stick your website onto. However, the chances are that it is much easier for you to find a domain name close to your own name.

If you are still not convinced that your own name will work for your business name, let’s take a look at my business naming process which will also lead you to your strapline.

Your Business Name & Your Strapline

Ultimately, your life coaching business is designed to solve problems for your clients, but what are the main problems you are going to solve, or who are the type of people you are going to solve the problems for?

Are they all accountants, lawyers, teachers or some other profession?

What results are you going to achieve for them?

Will you help them sleep better, deal with anxiety, and overcome obstacles or hurdles preventing them from achieving the success they want and deserve?

Now that I have hopefully got you started, it is time for you to spill everything out onto a sheet of A4 paper (go old school – it really does help the brain to do this and you will come up with more ideas).

Divide the paper into three columns and at the top of each column put the following:

1. What Do You Do?

2. Who Do You Help?

3. What Will You Achieve For Them (Benefits).

You need to get at least 10 items in each column before you can even think about stopping, but ideally 20 or 30.

Sit in a coffee shop, a park or by the sea and just stare out blankly until things start to come to you.

Your business name is going to be with you for a long time, so it is worth spending a good deal of time on it.

Once you have lots of options in each column, start to put some together in a sequence and see if they work.

If you are going to run with your name as your business name, then the process above will give you your strapline.

The beauty of a strapline is that it can change over time (mine certainly has), but whichever one you choose, what you are looking for is someone landing on your website and being instantly able to understand what you do.

For example, mine is Nick Jervis: Business Growth.

A life coach might be (these are made up):

John Smith: Curing Your Anxiety

Abigail Reid: Career Accelerator

Michael Welch: The Sleep Doctor

Joanne Fuller: Harmonious Relationships

If you land on any of those websites, you will have a pretty good idea instantly how they can help you, and that is precisely what you are looking for from your business name.

Once you have chosen your business name, how do you go about getting new clients?
